A thank you note to moms

Moms,

“Thank you” just doesn’t seem to have enough meaning to express the gratitude a mom deserves. It’s a hard job, rewarding for sure, but hard. Moms are up before everyone else, responsible for endless tasks, and never, ever appreciated enough for the amount of time, love, and effort put into everything they do. More often than not, you may get a simple “thank you” for all the stuff you do and provide.

I want to thank you, as a mother that appreciates and understands the sacrifice and effort behind what you do. However, the “thank you” I think is most valuable is the one you may never actually hear verbally. It’s the one I think God says when He sees how your child understands His love and who He is because of the mom you have been.

This thank you comes when…

  • Your child, because of how you love, has a good, healthy image of love when he reads Matthew 22:37, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
  • Your child knows how to “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness…”(Matthew 6:33) because he sees you do it daily.
  • Your child doesn’t even think twice when God asks him to take a step of faith because you “train up a child in the way he should go...” (Proverbs 22:6).
  • Your child knows the truth behind Proverbs 3:11-12 simply because you disciplined out of love instead of reacting in anger. “My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves...”
  • Your child knows how to recognize God in his everyday life because you live out Deuteronomy 6:6-7, “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

You may feel underappreciated, but know that all you do as a mom ultimately teaches your child who God is. If we can simply continue to listen to God and do what he says, we will get the ultimate thank you one day when we hear the words described in Matthew 25:23, "Well done good and faithful servant…” That is the kind of thank you I want, for me and for you.

Sincerely,
A mom doing the best she can and trusting God for the rest
