Session 26

The Bleeding Woman

From Eve & Adam: 30-Day Bible Study

Usually, we like to be chosen! When we are the one picked for the team or the one who receives the prize, it makes us feel special. But what about those times when we’re chosen for the not-so-good. We’re the one who receives a bad diagnosis or the one left out of a group. That’s when being chosen doesn’t feel so good. Those are the times we just want to blend in and be like everyone else—not sick, not lonely, not hurting.

The lady we meet in Mark 5 just wanted to be ordinary. She wanted to be healthy and to live a normal life. Being chosen for her wasn’t so much fun.  She spent twelve years trying to find healing in the normal ways. Just like any other sick person, she visited doctors and spent money trying to find the treatment to make her well.

After nothing else worked, in verses 27-29, this lady tried one more thing to find healing—she reached out and touched Jesus. And that’s when the extraordinary happened! She was finally healed! In that moment, her world changed and she realized she will never just be ordinary because she had an up-close encounter with Jesus.

We can have the same thing, no matter how abnormal and not ordinary we may feel. We can reach out and touch Jesus—through reading our Bible, going to church, praying—and He will show up and do the extraordinary. That may look like a physical healing and a change of circumstances, or it may look like an emotional healing where we’re filled with peace, joy, and love. Either way, we face the fact that we’re not just ordinary because Jesus has chosen to make us extraordinary.

1. In what area of your life have you been trying to find healing?

2. What does reaching out to Jesus look like for you today?
