What to do while we wait for Jesus to return

From Having A Kingdom Mentality: A 7-Day Devotional

Do you remember how you felt leading up to Inauguration Day?

Many of us will remember the months between the election and the inauguration as a time of anxious waiting or anticipatory excitement. This in-between time, where something has happened but its effects have not yet been realized, this is where we sit today. Jesus, the king, defeated the grave and we are waiting for His return.

Jesus’ status as ruler and king is secure, and He’s given us the responsibility of preparing for His kingdom. Jesus died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again (2 Corinthians 5:15).

As Christians, we are Jesus’ ambassadors on Earth (2 Corinthians 5:20). We represent Jesus with more than crosses around our necks or tattoos on our arms. We are responsible for bringing His message, a message of freedom and forgiveness, to others.

A kingdom mentality recognizes that this transition time is temporary, and the kingdom we’re building is not our own. Jesus is returning, and our role in the meantime is to encourage others to be reconciled to God just as we are (2 Corinthians 5:18-19).

This kingdom-building work takes courage and selflessness. It might require us to have uncomfortable conversations and put Jesus’ agenda before our own. To some, this responsibility might seem like a burden. But for those who have experienced Jesus’ love, it’s hard to imagine doing anything else.

Reflect:

During a time of transition, do you feel anxious or do you have peace? Why?
What does your life tell others about Jesus? If someone looked at the way you spend your time, money, and influence, whose kingdom would they see?

Do you ever struggle to share the hope you have in Jesus? Often, telling others about Jesus is as simple as sharing our story. Learn how at www.newspring.cc/stories
