A Life She Didn’t Plan

Molly Perkins’ Story

Molly wasn’t in the habit of giving her parents trouble. She was a people pleaser.

No matter what was going on, one day was always marked off the calendar for fun: Sundays were church days.

“It wasn’t even a question,” she says.

Like many teenagers reared by devoted Christian parents, Molly accomplished her rite of passage into adulthood at a Christian summer camp during high school. Jesus became real to Molly then, and Jesus had a plan for her life.

There was just one problem: When she became a student at Clemson, His plans didn’t always match hers.

Molly wasn’t rebellious. She just wanted the full college experience. She knew all the roles she had to play, and she played each of them perfectly.

She thought of the Wednesday Bible studies she’d attend like freebies for the weekends of drinking and parties.

Toward the end of her college years, a boyfriend invited her to NewSpring. It was only then that her childhood faith really clicked — as part of community that spurred her on in a daily relationship with Jesus.

Now serving in the Fuse student ministry, she draws on her experience to help teenage girls make Jesus a real part of their lives from the beginning. “My past is so perfect to speak to these girls."
